privacy policy

what we collect, what we never touch, and exactly who can see your mochis. plain language, no dark patterns.

mochi is a tiny daily-vlog app for close friend groups. you roll a 2-second clip once an hour, and it lands in your gang's room and your own private day-log. this policy explains what data that involves — and the honest answer is: as little as we can get away with.

01

the short version

  • we collect the bare minimum to run a gang: your account, your clips, and who you share them with.
  • we never sell your data. there are no ads in mochi, in any tier, ever.
  • your clips are only visible to the gangs you post them to — and your day-log is visible to you alone.
  • you can export or delete everything, any time, from settings.
02

what we collect

things you give us

  • account basics — a phone number or email to sign in, a display name, and your mochi flavor (the little color that's you).
  • your mochis — the 2-second clips you roll, plus any comment you attach to them.
  • your gangs — the groups you create or join, and the friends in them.
  • room activity — likes you give, and clips you quote into a room chat.

things we collect automatically

  • device & app info — device type, OS version, app version, and crash logs, so we can keep mochi from breaking.
  • basic usage — when you open the app and whether a clip sent successfully. we use this only to run the service.
🚫

we do not collect your contacts, your location, your camera roll, or any advertising identifiers. mochi only ever sees the clip you choose to roll.

03

how we use it

we use your data for exactly four things:

  • to deliver your mochis to the right gang room and your day-log.
  • to keep the app working — sign-in, notifications when a friend rolls a clip, and fixing crashes.
  • to keep mochi safe — preventing spam, abuse, and unauthorized access.
  • to talk to you — occasional service messages (never marketing spam).

we don't profile you, we don't build an ad graph, and we don't train models on your private clips.

04

who can see your mochis

this is the part that matters most, so here it is plainly:

a clip you post to a gang
visible to the members of that gang only (up to 12 people). not public, not searchable.
your personal day-log
visible to you alone. nobody else — not even your gang — can see your day-log timeline.
a comment or like
visible to the same gang the clip lives in.
a quote to room chat
visible to the people in that chat thread.

mochi has no public feed, no algorithm, and no way for strangers to find your clips. gangs are invite-only.

05

sharing & disclosure

we don't sell or rent your personal data. full stop. we share data only with:

  • service providers who help us run mochi (cloud hosting, video storage, push notifications) — bound by contract to protect your data and use it only for us.
  • legal requests — if required by valid law, and only the minimum necessary. we'll tell you unless legally barred.
  • a business transfer — if mochi is ever acquired, we'll notify you before your data moves, and this policy travels with it.
06

how long we keep it

  • your day-log archive — kept for 30 days on the free plan (longer on paid tiers, when they launch).
  • gang clips — kept as long as the gang exists and you're a member.
  • account info — kept while your account is active.

when you delete a clip, a gang, or your whole account, we remove it from active systems promptly and purge backups on a rolling 30-day cycle.

07

your controls

from settings → privacy you can, at any time:

  • export your clips and day-log as video files;
  • delete any clip, leave any gang, or delete your account entirely;
  • turn notifications on or off;
  • request a copy of the data we hold about you.

depending on where you live (e.g. the EU/UK or California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, or restrict processing. email us and we'll honor them.

08

kids

mochi is built for ages 13 and up (16+ where local law requires). we don't knowingly collect data from children under that age. if you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll remove the account.

09

where data lives

mochi is made by a small team across Seoul and Brooklyn, and your data may be processed in those regions and wherever our cloud providers operate. when we move data across borders, we use recognized safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to keep it protected.

10

changes to this policy

if we make a meaningful change, we'll update the date at the top and let you know in the app before it takes effect. we won't quietly expand what we collect.
